Day 7: Pingyao

We spent the day getting acquainted with the tiny city of Pingyao, a walled city from the Ming Dynasty.  At its height it was the center of banking for all of Asia.  We watched a Mock Trial (although we couldn't understand much of what was going on) before taking a tour of types of punishments and torture that prisoners would be subjected to. Some were very brutal!

Street in Pingyao

Cannons protecting the ancient city

Walking along the wall.

A school next to the city.  The students were doing their morning exercises.

A mock trial.

An ancient instrument of torture for women who were unfaithful.

Some women asked to have their picture taken with us.

A foot massage.  About $6 for an hour!

After dinner we went to a "Western" restaurant that played mostly American slow 90's music.
